The Wall Street Journal is looking for a Deputy Social/Off-Platform Editor to help manage a team of New York-based editors powering all of our social channels, from Twitter and Facebook to Instagram and Snapchat. You will ensure that our journalism is delivered effectively across these platforms every hour of the day, and that we are giving our audience the best possible experience.
You will take a hands-on approach to social publishing. You will be confident in deciding which stories to prioritize for certain platforms; in conceiving social plans for investigative pieces, interactive stories and breaking news alike; and in making publishing decisions quickly without sacrificing quality or accuracy. You will work directly with WSJ’s coverage areas and our strategy editors to craft off-platform packages and shepherd plans from concept to final execution.
You will help assign shifts and duties to the broader social team, and take on these responsibilities personally. You will also act as a bridge to our colleagues overseas, ensuring smooth transitions in social publishing around the clock. You need to have a broad knowledge of social media platforms and their nuances, as well as superb news judgment. Some night and weekend work may be required.
You will report to the Social/Off-Platform Editor.

Help codify social-media policies; clarify and update guidelines as necessary.
Work with colleagues on the News Partnerships team to enhance our offerings on Apple News, Facebook News and elsewhere.
Work with commercial colleagues to identify opportunities to enhance promotion of our journalism
Stay informed about what the coverage area is publishing on a short- and long-term basis; spot important stories and provide social guidance.

- At least 5 years of news editing and social-media experience in a newsroom.
Proven experience as a news editor, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
Understanding of and familiarity with social-media publishing and analytics tools, including SocialFlow, Parse.ly, CrowdTangle and other relevant software or platforms.
Experience publishing to visual-first platforms like Instagram and Snapchat, including script/caption writing and editing.
