My absence from chicfaced is shameful — can I plead inspiration deprivation?

This past Saturday was Anna’s bridal shower, which I hosted (with the help of Laura and LT) in my backyard.

My very talented husband designed the invites. If it’s not clear from the invite, it was an Alice in Wonderland/Mad Hatter Tea Party theme. It was such a fun party to plan and even more fun to see come together and have Anna enjoy. It was (for the most part) a surprise — Anna caught a glimpse of the invite on a friend’s fridge but didn’t know any other details, like the decor or the fact that her soon-to-be-husband was going to be dressing up like the Mad Hatter to escort her to the shower.

I got a phone call from Anna’s fiance approximately 20 minutes before the shower started.
“Megan. You know I was the Mad Hatter in my high school production of Alice in Wonderland, right?”
“No…”
“You know I still have the hat, right?”
“No..”
“I’ll be right over.”

She makes a gorgeous Alice, too, don’t you think?

The table decorations were all Goodwill finds and fabric, table clothes, plates and knick knacks from our collective homes.

We played the wedding dress toilet paper game. You team up into teams of 2 with one roll of toilet paper and 5 minutes to create a look for the bride to judge and declare a winner. Watching the process was hilarious and hearing the descriptions was even better. Naturally, I liked Laura’s creation the best. It ended up being very Givenchy but as those things go, her couture vision lost out to a more ready-to-wear, Very Wang creation.

I wore my very favorite party dress — I bought it for a friend’s wedding a couple years ago and wear it every chance I get (my shower, weddings, etc.). It’s just so pretty and girly and has a built in crinoline and I’m a sucker for any dress w/a little pouf and a layered skirt. I was barefoot for the shower but I slipped into some super high black platforms for going out that night.

It was such a fun day — awesome weather, good friends, sparkly wine and pretty dresses — can’t get much better in my book. Congratulations, Anna, and I can’t wait to keep on celebrating (up next? NYC!)

this snowstorm may not have been good for my stir-craziness, or for my footwear, but it sure has been good for the blog. one thing it has afforded us, in all this time off, is a chance to take lots of pictures (and together! which doesn’t happen as much as you’d think it would for living all of five blocks from one another, but we are trying to be better about that). another thing it has given us is lots of gorgeous sunshine! megan and i met up today to have lunch and trudge around town and here are some snapshots of our afternoon:

look ma, we’re famous! a snowy white snapshot of our lovely little town:

green means go.  ahhahahha.  what a chump.  Anyway, Tom trekked out in the white stuff to get us coffee this “morning” and came back to report that cnn was camped outside the coffee shop….they’re obviously getting some hard hitting reporting done.

Wore this to work last Wednesday.  I got it in the mail from adore vintage - it was my 1st purchase from the site and I’m hooked – awesome prices coupled with a big selection of vintage and vintage inspired dresses – sold!.  I like this dress because it is unexpectedly modern – this dress is most definitely from the 70′s but at first glance, it looks like it could have been produced this year. 

I had forgotten these shoes existed in my closet until I randomly watched a video interview between Rachel Zoe and Maria Menounos from Access Hollywood a year or so ago.  Here’s how the interview went down:

RZ: As you know, a nude patent pump is an essential in every girl’s shoe collection
MM: ……………
MM: ………..why….?

RZ: ……………???? WEELLLLLL BECAAAUSSEE it is an essential and goes with everything and elongates your leg.

duh, Maria.  They were both so over talking to each other, it was hilarious.

I think this is the last time I’ll get to wear this dress for the season…  wore this out to dinner with T one weekeday night.  It is one of my favorite dresses –  was having a bit of my own RZ moment with the long, printed maxi dress and big gold vintage bracelets.

L and I went shopping downtown with our friend Victoria on Saturday afternoon – there is a local vintage jewelry store (where I get most of my vintage jewelry) that was having a Everything is $5 sale and a new consignment shop opened Saturday as well.  We all scored a lot of good loot…  I got a super cute wrap blouse and silk dress – both from anthropologie – at the consignment store…it’s funny, too, cause I consigned quite a bit of stuff there the other day and Victoria ended up buying one of my dresses.  Guess I owe her a drink…

Anyway, here is what we wore:

After lunching, shopping and a few hours of recuperating from the heat, we all went out to a local restaurant, Sammy T’s, to see our multi-talented webmaster, totallymeat, along with our other awesome friends (Chris Park, Kenny Ellinger, et. al.) perform in the local brass band, Elby Brass.  That’s right.  A bunch of dudes (who are most certainly not in high school) in high school band uniforms, playing funk music and generally being awesome and dance-y and funny and amazing entertaining.  I’m so proud of my very talented friends.  After the show ended around midnight, Kenny dj’ed till about 2am.  I danced, danced, danced the night away with a bunch of friends and had the best time.  I love nights like that….

Also, I may or may not have acquired one of the marching band uniform jackets – in my size! – that I will most certainly be wearing this Fall/Winter.

Great weekend….too bad I am one of the only suckers who has to work tomorrow.  Labor day…hello, Fall!

….or at least, trying to stay that way.

in the inestimable words of an ex-boyfriend, it is hotter than two squirrels fucking in a wool sock. in hindsight, he had lots of less than desirable qualities, among them kleptomania, pathological lying and a tendency toward vandalism, but he sure had a way with a phrase. but i digress.

wednesday, megan and i braved the stifling heat and humidity for the shortest photo session to date. i really am such a wuss when it comes to hot weather. still though, the surroundings were lovely as ever–fredericksburg has no shortage of scenic backdrops. in this case, we chose the kenmore plantation for our blogger antics before scurrying away to the air conditioning. thanks again to anna for sticking it out with us!

the necklaces are an assortment of amber, tiger’s eye, jade, coral, quartz and turquoise stones. all kinds of positive energy around my neck that day! if you believe in that stuff, like i do.

man, taking outfit pics is hard in the sweltering heat, but we made it through. in fact, we had a very nice evening walking around with anna while she experimented with the new camera, scoping out future photo-ops, and ending up at the local bistro cooling off with iced tea and a delicious dinner.

We celebrated the unofficial start to summer yesterday by barbecuing with some of our nearest and dearest.  We both took a ton of photos and thought this would be a good time to introduce some of the characters in our lives….
