cape - vintage/tee - target/jeans - bdg (uo)/moccasins - matisse/bag - chloe/sunnies - f21

i found this little blue cape on etsy earlier this spring. it is definitely one of the happiest things i own, if you can assign a feeling to a piece of clothing. i think you can. add in a pair of polka dot sunnies, a red bag and sparkling sunshine and i felt downright gleeful. i hope everyone had a great weekend! xoxo, laura

blazer - vintage/tee - aa/jeans - old navy/shoes - seychelles/bag - chloe/sunnies - target

sometimes the clothes speak for themselves. not much to add here except i found the blazer on ebay, which was a fun challenge because, as you might imagine, there are a lot of seriously ugly plaid blazers to sift through. it works equally well with mini skirts and short dresses. i just have to make sure to wear heels, or else i’m all torso. i remember reading somewhere that the chloe ‘bay’ collection (from which this bag and my other chocolate one come, and which i heart) was inspired by 1970s luggage. a little trivia for ya.

till next time,

top -self made/tee - aa/skirt and boots - j.crew/coat - banana republic

this is an outfit that i snapped from last week. now that most of the snow has melted i have finally been able to wear these boots that i got a little while ago (as debated over in this post), and OMG I LOVE THEM. they have the foldover detail like the chloes, which i was looking for, and the heel isn’t ridiculous, which means i can wear them to work. they are also begging to be worn with 99% of my wardrobe.

oh, and look what i happened to find the next day on olsen’s anonymous: MK rockin the (real)  fringe wrap with her gigantic ponyhair balenciaga:

marc by marc jacobs dress, charlotte ronson ankle boots, chloe bag

this dress is by far one of the strangest pieces of clothing i own, but that’s probably why i like it so much. it is technically a dress, but it is lined in thick, almost quilted material, so it’s pretty weighty, which makes me feel like i’m wearing some kind of padded tunic-like armor. the shoulders are also super-wide (very marc) but that is thankfully reigned in by the waist-cinching belt. and it’s heavy enough to act as a coat as well on days that aren’t freezing, but still chilly. it seemed natural to pair it with these boots, which remind me of ice skates, since the dress is from marc’s skater-inspired collection of fall 2007. the rest is self-explanatory i think. et voila!

chloe

in a long line of lustworthy shoes by chloe, these are my latest fixation. coming from designer hannah macgibbon’s fall 2009 collection, they did not strike me at first but have slowly begun to pervade my senses (especially after seeing them on sienna and blake) and i am now convinced that i need something very similar. i am imagining wearing them with everything, and, taking cues from the collection, i especially have a craving now for wooly, drapey cape-like silhouettes in khaki and olive drabs. resigning myself to never acquiring the actual chloes, i have been searching for an acceptable imitation, and these are what i have found so far:

image1xlfrom asos.com: very reasonably priced, and i like the grey suede. but they are missing the fold0ver detail.

erez

from j.crew, believe it or not. a little expensive, but gorgeous. the heel isn’t that high, but i guess that’s ok.

and finally, from dolce vita (sorry, couldn’t figure out how to save the pic). these are a pretty close copy, and sooo lovely. if only they came in a suede option.

so–what do you all think? any other suggestions?

have a great weekend! xoxo, laura

the unattainables

Monday, August 17th, 2009

the following is a list of things that i desire madly (madly, i tell you) but will be unlikely ever to possess, either because they were made in such limited quantities only a handful of people got their hands on them, or because the extreme cost puts them waaaay out of my reach. or both. unfortunately, it doesn’t help that ebay (my only real hope) is awash with fakes and replicas. nevertheless, i haven’t given up yet–maybe the fashion gods will come through in the end!

j. crew cardigan, london times dress, chloe maryjanes and tote

i fell in love with these shoes when they first came out in spring ’07. i mean, CHOCOLATE PATENT LEATHER MARYJANES. with little bows! and metal capped heels! what could be better? knowing i wouldn’t be able to afford the real thing, i looked madly for a knock-off version, only to find one that was unbearably uncomfortable, so they went back. then, over a year later, i was lucky enough to find them once they had gone on super sale. it was actually thanks to rumi, when she scored the cream triple strap version on yoox.com, that i was able to snap them up. the cream version definitely got more attention amongst bloggers, and i did lust after them too for awhile, but my sights were always set on these. in fact, they are my only pair of “designer” shoes to date, since i’ll happily save up and drop big bucks on bags but still feel kinda funny about paying a ton for shoes. i’m sure i’ll get over that one day. until then, i will be perfectly content with my purchase.
